Behind the Scenes of Wood and Barrel

The Crafting of Whiskey Barrels

Our long history of expertise in the hardwood flooring business has led us to turn our hobby into a new business venture. Our generations of care and craftsmanship will go into every item we create.

Bourbon is aged in charred American white oak barrels. The changes in temperature cause the wood to repeatedly absorb and release the whiskey, giving the finished product its characteristic oak notes and amber color. Each barrel ages differently and is allowed to age until the desired taste profile is reached. The beauty of a wood barrel lies in its natural irregularities. These irregularities cause unpredictability and inconsistency when aging. Therefore, wood color and shade may vary.

Whiskey barrels are the perfect addition to any bourbon lover’s home.

Customers Keep Coming Back

Thank you Wood and Barrel for our refurbished whiskey barrel bar. It is a unique and functional piece of art. A great conversation starter. We just love it! Brian was great to work with. When we had some questions, Brian (the owner) responded quickly and made sure it was exactly how we wanted our barrel. Great customer service. We just ordered some stave stools to go with it. It was nice to go to a showroom and see the barrel décor in person. All the other companies only sell on-line. I have recommended Wood and Barrel to all my friends and family. I will continue to do so.

Thank you Brian

  • A collage of family photos labeled "Daigle Family," featuring four different pairs of people posing together.

I have spent over 50 years in the wood flooring industry and
recently, I have really found a passion in the enjoyment of bourbon. I went out
to visit family in Kentucky a few years ago and saw the art, décor, and
furniture that they were creating with old bourbon barrels and I thought “Hey I
could do that too!” AND bring it to an East Coast audience!

I have always loved working with my hands and taking something old
and making it new again. At first, I was thinking this could be just a fun
hobby as running two businesses can be stressful. But seeing that Patrick
Daigle Hardwood Flooring has been in the industry and family for over 97 years,
and there is such an interest in my bourbon creatings I thought Wood and Barrel
needed to become a real focus and a company!

We are a fourth generation business in the flooring industry since 1927 covering over 97 years. It all started in 1927 with my grandfather, Pea Daigle, who began producing flooring and building material.  In the early sixties, my father followed into the family flooring business specializing in hardwood flooring contractor Connecticut.

In 1972, my father decided to go on his own and founded Patrick Daigle Flooring.  I, myself, at the age of 12 was able to work with my dad and learn the skills of the family business.  My father, a highly respected business owner, was considered a trusted friend by all who knew him and still to this day, I myself take my fathers advice that there are no shortcuts when it comes to delivering a quality floor.

Sadly, my father passed in 1988, but left the business under my ownership.  Still a family run business, my wife and I work with my son, Alex, my uncles and many other valuable employees.  I am also currently teaching my son and daughter about the flooring business.  Therefore, we have been a true family business.  We are well known for our professionalism and expertise throughout Connecticut and have over 20,000 satisfied customers.  For this reason, friends, family and realtors recommend us to all.  We look forward to working with your projects and satisfaction in the future.  For more information, please go to: http://www.patrickdaigleflooring.com
