Whiskey barrels are primarily made of American Oak, which is known for its durability and rustic elegance. These casks, once used to store bourbon or whiskey, are repurposed into stunning furniture and accessories. Here are five creative ways to incorporate whiskey barrels into your home décor.
Whiskey Barrel Tables
When it comes to making whiskey barrel tables, there are a few essential things to keep in mind. First, you can either use a new barrel or a used barrel. The latter will retain the liquor's characteristics once aged and create a rustic appeal to your furniture.
Second, when you create barrel furniture, it is important to seal the wood to minimize moisture damage. Here at Wood & Barrel, we use polyurethane and varnish to accomplish this task. This keeps the moisture out while also leaving behind an attractive finish on top of your piece!
Finally, if you want something unique and don't mind spending some extra money, then it is imperative to find and consider upcycled furniture pieces that preserve a piece of that rich history through its rustic style. This adds character while also making sure no two pieces look exactly alike.

Whisky Stave Chairs
Whiskey stave chairs are another great way to add a rustic touch to your home and outdoor space! They're easy to make and can be customized to your preference. You can use any wood, but white oak is the most common because it creates the perfect balance of visual allure, durability, and strength.

Bourbon Barrel Bar
The bourbon barrel bar is the perfect way to bring the artisanal charm of whiskey barrels into your home. The furniture pieces for the bar will include tables, stools, and other elements. It can be built with either whiskey or wine barrels.
At Wood & Barrel, we deploy time tested techniques that are passed down through the generations for the barrel project. We cut one end of the recycled whiskey barrel to ensure it can stand upright on its own or with the support of legs. We also sand down any rough edges until they're smooth. We cut two pieces of plywood that are slightly smaller than your cut end piece, and then we attach them with screws through holes drilled into both pieces at each end. They serve as legs for your new tabletop when placed over the top in place once finished with the staining/sealing process.

Whiskey Barrel Bookcases and Shelves
Who doesn't want a custom whiskey barrel bookcase or shelves for their home or office? This design is unique and will be a showstopper in your space.
We first look for a barrel in good condition. We then measure the size of the shelf you want and the width of your oak barrel. If you have a standard sized whiskey barrel, it's easy to do. If not, finding the perfect balance for your DIY project might require some creative thinking.
Then we cut out two pieces of wood that will fit inside each end of your whiskey barrel when placed together like an "L" shape, with one long side facing up and one short side facing down against the bottom half of your bookcase frame (or whatever shape suits you). We make sure these pieces are wide enough so they won't break through either end when inserted into place but still leave room enough between them. This also minimizes the contact inside either end cap while being supported by four wooden legs beneath them, which will hold everything together once assembled properly.

Whiskey Barrel Coffee Tables
An awesome whiskey barrel coffee table is a great way to add some rustic flair! The process of building one of these is pretty simple, but it requires some carpentry skills and tools.
First, we saw the wooden staves in half. Next, we clean and sand each half until smooth so that it's ready for finishing later on in this project.
Then we attach the legs using wood glue and screws. Finally, we attach either an existing top or build one from scratch using plywood or another type of material, like solid hardwood boards glued together into planks with waterproof glue.
We hope this article has given you some inspiration for how to incorporate whiskey/ wine barrel classy furniture into your own home! Whether it's a table, chair, or shelf, there are many different ways that you can use these barrels to create something that suits your style and taste. We think they look great anywhere from an office space to bedroom décor.
